District 5 is one of eight Districts that make up ASLEF - the Associated Society Of Locomotive Engineers And Firemen, which is the principal Trade Union for train drivers in Great Britain. District 5 covers some London depots and those in the east of England from the River Thames and the Thames Estuary northwards to roughly Lincolnshire. The depots covered include both passenger and freight. The name of our Trade Union is historic, dating from the Union's formation in 1880. Nowadays, as you would expect from a modern Trade Union, both men and women are welcomed as members.
