Data protection
As a union rep you might have to collect and store
personal information on members.
Make sure that you know about the union's data protection
policy and follow it.
You may not legally store any personal information without
being covered by a data protection policy.

Data protection
- sending emails
When you send emails to more than one person, are you
sending them so that everyone's email address stays private?
If you are not, you might be infringing data protection rules - especially if
you are sending emails out that are connected with union business or in
connection with your position as a Rep.
to find out how easy it is to send out emails without revealing everybody's
email address. You'll open a short Word document that you can view and download.
If you find it useful, pass it on.
The case for a Trade Union Freedom Bill
March / April 2006
In 1906 unions won the legal right to organise
industrial action, but successive anti-union restrictions mean that union rights
are weaker than those introduced 100 years ago.
We need changes in the law to protect
workers properly when they take official industrial action

Ask your MP to support the campaign for
workplace justice.
Please help us to build support for the
campaign for a Trades Union Freedom Bill in Parliament by asking your MP to sign
Early Day Motion 1170.

The Law At Work
The TUC campaigns for decent employment rights, and helps unions make the
most of advances in employment protection. The "Law
At Work" section of the TUC's website is where you can find policy
briefings and expert advice on employment law for unions. You can find older
material by using the
search facilities.
To find out whether the law can help you, visit the TUC's special
rights at work area.
