Each District has a representative on each of the three Consultative Committees. The Retired Members’ Section has its own constitution and standing orders with a committee that is elected each year at the Annual General Meeting, to which all retired members are invited.

Rights to Time Off Work

There are several links at the top of this page that take you to websites that give advice on information on such things as Paternity Leave, Maternity Leave, Parental Leave and Flexible Working.

ASLEF Members are also advised to consult their ASLEF Representatives on these matters as there may be agreements in place with their particular employer that exceed their statutory rights.

In addition, ASLEF may have agreements in place for rights to time off for things that are not (yet) covered by legislation. It's always worth checking first.

Treading Water
SERTUC's eighth survey of equality in trade unions - May 2008

Treading Water is a SERTUC (Southern and Eastern Region TUC) book that captures a snapshot of unions' equality structures and activities - not only internal activities, but also the work done to strengthen the equality of opportunity for members in the workplace and society.

31 unions (covering 94% of TUC affiliated trades unionists) are included.

To enable easy access, information on respondent unions is outlined under the following headings:

Overview, Women, Black Members, Disabled Members, LGBT, Pensioners, Young Members, Support for Activists, and The Wider Movement.

Treading Water also includes a guide to SERTUC's equality structures and activities.

Countering the Far Right: TUC Course

This course is run on an ongoing basis according to the number of applicants. It is always worth getting your name down for it to make sure you are on the next available course.

If you opt for the online version of this course and have never done an online TUC course before, you will automatically be put on a short "pre-course" called "GREL" - Getting Ready For Electronic Learning.

If you are new to e-learning GREL will show you everything you need to know and is designed to ensure you'll get the most out of the main course.

Britain's cultural and racial diversity is crucial for the development of the nation's economic and social well-being.

This course will help you to challenge attitudes and views that are contrary to trade union values and to counter the far right as well as helping you to continue the trade union movement's strong tradition of challenging discrimination and opposing racist groups that cause hostility within the workplace and create divisions in society.

"We believe all disabled people should have the same human rights as everyone else"

We are aiming to build a mass movement of disabled people and non-disabled people campaigning and working for equality – that’s why we are holding our second Time to Get Equal Week in June 2008, giving everyone the chance to support our campaign - SCOPE
